CHINESE PIRATES.

POWERS TO APPROACH NATIONALISTS. (by cablb— pbbss associltiok—copibiqht.) (austbalian and n.z. cablb association.) SHANGHAI, January 26. The foreign Powers have voluntarily abandoned the plan jointly to suppress piracy in South China, according to a report from Peking, due to the expense of providing the necessary gunboats, and the possibility of the Chinese misunderstanding such an action. It is stated that as an alternative the Powers will request the Nationalist Government to undertake effective measures for the suppression of piracy on the coasts of the Fukien and Kwangtung Provinces, and guarantee safe navigation of foreign vessels plying in these waters. Fifteen pirates who participated in the Sannamhoi piracy on January 17th, resulting in the death of a British officer and Indian guards, were executed.
