CRICKETERS ENTERTAINED

At the Cafe Cecil a dinner was held at the conclusion of the Wellington and Canterbury Municipal cricket match. Toast 3 proposed during the evening were:—"The King," by his Worship the Mayor; "Mayor and Councillors of Wellington and Christchurch," by Mr Milburn, reply by Mr ; J. K. Archer; "The Wellington Council" Cricket Team*' by Mr R. F. Batchelor, reply by Mr H. E. Nicholls and-Mr F.W. Pringle; "The Christchurch Council Team" by Mr Lauchlan, reply by Mr J. C. Johns. At the conclusion, Mr E. F. Batchelor moved a vote of thanks to Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., who had done so much for the Christchurch team.

BOYS' ASSOCIATION.

SHIELD MATCH AGAINST WELLINGTON. At the end of this week the Canterbury boys' Cricket Association under 16 representatives will play a game in Christchurch againßt the Wellington Boys' Cricket League for tho New Zealand boys' (under 16) challenge shield, which is at present held by the local Association. The Wellington team will arrivo in : Christchurch on Saturday -morning when they will be met at the railway station, by those who are billeting the visiting playera. Tho match will take place at the Hagley Oval ground on Saturday and Monday, play commencing each day at 12.30 p.m. On Saturday stumps will be drawn at 7.30 p.m., but on Monday, as the Wellington boys have to leave by . that night's ferry steamer, play will cease at 5 p.m. The Canterbury team for this match will bo as follows, but there is a strong possibility that there will be changes mado before the team travels down to f)unedin next Tuesday:—A. P. Cobden '(Boys' High School), G. N. Blackaby (Technical), E. E. Hornsell (Boys' High School), F. T. J. French (Technical), B. Grimmer (St. Andrew's), D. M. Collin3 (Technical), K. .T. The captain of the team has not yet been appointed but Mr H. Irving will act as manager whilst tho twelfth man is K. Burns (Karori).

OTAGO MATCHES. Practice is being continued this week in connexion with the selection of the two teams, under 16 and 15, which are to travel down to Dunedin next Tuesday. Tlie boys have not been definitely picked as yet,and, owing to difficulties in connexion with billet ing,. it is probable that only a bare eleven will be taken in the caso of the senior team, which, in the event of Canterbury beating Wellington, will play the Otago Boys' Cricket Association for the New Zealand boys' (under 16) challenge . shield. The two Canterbury teams, which most likely will be selected next Saturday,, will leave Christchurch on Tuesday, play in Dunedin on Thursday and Friday r and return home o-i tho Saturday.

The Management Committee of the Auckland Cricket Association has decided to ask tho New Zealand Cricket Council if it would be possible to arrange the match Auckland v. Australia so as to enable Bowley and Langridge to take part prior to their departure from Auckland on March 17th, otherwise the gate would be seriously affected.

Messrs A. Francis and 0. Nissen were chosen umpires for the Plunket Shield match, Auckland v. Wellington. BRISBANE, January 18. Queensland in their, second innings made 351 (Thompson 93, O'Connor 133 not out). Bowling for South Australia, Scott took four wickets for 71 runs, and Grlmmett three for 98. South Australia won outright by an innings and eleven runs. The weather was fine and the wicket still good, but the cricket was very dull, the rate of scoring being slower even than on the previous day.
