Tides. It .will be high tide on the be;i''h this afternoon at 3.43 o'clock and in the river at 4.40 o'clock and to-morrow at -I."'i p.m. and 6.P p.m. respectively.

South Brighton Gala. The popularity of South Brighton Gala may be judged from the fact that the gross receipts amounted to £-">3 10s 3d. The secretary, Mr A. YV. Scarr, and his committee, are to be congratulated upon the general success of this rear's effort.

Central Gala. A meeting of the General Committee of the Central Gala was held in the Council Chambers last night, Mr J. Gamble being in the chair. Favourable reports were received from the several sub-committees, and it was reported that everything was held in train for the Gala, which commences on the 1-Hh iust.

Rifle Shooting. Mr V. Timms, a resident, of N'ew Brighton, and a member of the Xew Brighton Miniature Eifle Club, is to be congratulated upon winning the championship at the South Island Jtiile Association meeting at Kedcliffs.

Summer Visitors. The Borough is still and likely to be for some time yet very full of visitors, and it is practically impossible tu obtain accommodatiou of any description. In view of this satisfactory state of affairs, the tradespeople and others interested in the general welfare of New Brighton are in good heart.

Boy Scouts' Trek. The local troop of Boy iSeouis, under Scoutmaster G. W. Bishop, Divisional Commander, left with their trek can on Thursday morning for their annual trek, their objective being Mount Grey. They are expected to be away three weeks.
