j GREY-MOUTH. January ,7. Mr J. W. Greenslade (Mayor of Greymouth) and Mrs Greenslade arrived in Christchurch yesterday from Sydney. Mr Arthur Kilgour (Masterton\ who has been visiting his daughter, Mrs W. Green, Perotti street, will return tomorrow. Sister F. Meredith, oi the Greymouth Hospital nursing staff, left to-day on holiday to Christchurch. Major-General Sir Andrew Knsscll has advised Mr T. E. T. Seddon, M.P., of his intention to visit Greymouth to attend the jubilee celebrations. Sir Edward Miehelson will also attend. Mrs M. J. Phillips (Bueeleugh street) left to-day for Wellington. The marriage of Mr William Sharp, Tainui street, Greymouth, to Miss Petty, formerly of Scotland, took place yesterday afternoon, the Rev. Greenslade officiating. Priest's Death. At an inquest held at West port into the death of the I\cw Father Bowe, a verdict was returned of death from heart failure while bathing at North Beach. Grey Ear. The long spell of dry weather is having a bad effect oil the Grey bar, the depth in tho channel at high water being only nineteen feet. This is causing serious losses to shipping companies owing to the restricted loadings. The Kartigi, now loading coal and timber for Wellington, will have to leave Greymouth nine hundred tons short of capacity, while the Waipori, which is loading coal for Napier and Auckland, will also bo restricted to nine hundred tons less than a full cargo. Kotuku-Bell Hill road. The Minister for Public Works has advised Mr T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., that the formation of tho Kotuku-Bcll Hill road is completed, and that contracts are in hand for carrying out the metalling, which still remains to bo done. It is anticipated that tho whole work will be completed by the end of March. In connexion with the Crooked river bridge, the Minister informed Mr Seddon that he is advised the Grey County Council is now obtaining quotations for the hardwood required for this structure. liakc Kanieri. During the holidays anglers have been rewarded with some fair catches of quinnat salmon in Lake Kanieri. Most of the fish are being caught in the quiet waters about Sunny Bight or at the head of the lake. Motor boating appears to have a disturbing effect on the fish, which arc seared away as soon aa the oil launches appear. Railway Traffic. I To-day's outward express to Christchurch carried 261 passengers, and the west-bound express this afternoon "brought 233. The special horse train which left for Christchurch at 8 o'clock this evening carried fifty horses and ninety passengers. To-morrow's express to Christchurch will carry a large contingent of holiday visitors from the Coast. The Weather.
Very warm weather is being experienced on tho Coast this week. The prospects of a continuance for the Kecfton Jockey Club's Meeting on Friday and Saturday are very promising.
