CARNIVAL DAY AT HANMER.
TO TH» KDITOR Of TB* PB*9B. Sir, —Just a few words regarding the attitude taken up by the Forestry Department horo on the Carnival Day. They advertised asking people to bo suro and visit the stato forest and nursery on the abovo day (permits obtainable at tho office). Now what, did they do? Chained and padlocked all gates and cloßcd tho office, and, not. content with this, put three married men on so-called firo patrol to kocp •people absolutely out of the forestry. These three men had their day spoilt, but, as is usual with tho foret: iy here, thoy were working, with nothing extra for the day, whilo tho single men <>t* the staff had tho day free. The carnival was a great success, but in tho opinion of all, was marred by the high handed attitudo of the Forestry Department. X trust the threo men employed by them will bo given suitablo reward (overmuch to expect from such a concern, I know) but let us trust that these few linos may bear fruit.—Yours, etc., AN OBSERVANT OUTSIDER.
