Fire in the cellar of Harbottie and Company, spirit' merchants, at St. James's Palace, in the city, caused enormous damage before it was subdued. Thousands of pounds worth or gin and whisky were destroyed. The spirits were contained in huge vats, and the firemen, while fighting the outbreak, had to face the risk of explosion at any moment. The cause of the tire is unknown.
