There has been a large influx ot visitors to Hannior Springs for the holidays and all the boardinghouses are filled to their utmost capacity. The numerous camping parties and daily picnic parties, for which the place is becoming increasingly popular, have been fortunate in experiencing such warm weather. On the Sunday, Monuay and Tuesday, SO, S3, and SI degrees were registered in the shade. Father Christmas made his appearance in the Hanmer Hall on Christmas Eve, much to the delight of the young folk. Later in the evening the hall was cleared and a dance, given by Mr and Mrs T. J. Hughes, was much enjoyed by the large crowd that attended and danced to music supplied by the Lyric orchestra. A crowded hall, good music, and the holiday spirit, were the chief features at a dance held by the United •Sports Committee on Boxing Night. In spito of the heat the dance proved an unqualified success. Mrs Burns and friends were in charge of the supper and Mr T. Wood acted as M.C. A lucky spot waltz was won by Miss Samson and Mr T. Fraser. The main topic of conversation in Hanmer Springs at present is carnival. Offers of help on the day are being received from far and near, and judging by word received, visitors intend coming from all over North Canterbury, as well as from Christchurch. The Railway Department has advised intending holiday makers to reserve their seats, as, with only a limited number available, those leaving the booking to the last .minute may be disappointed. There will be no charge for admission to the grounds, which are ideal for the purpose.
