Following are the killiDgß for export at all works during the 1927-28 season, commencing October Ist, 1927, to November 15th, 1927. (The figures for the corresponding period of the 1926-27 season are shown in the second column)':—-

BOOTS AND SHOES.' Taking all classes of footwear imported during the calendar years 1924, 1925, and 1926, the average yearly importations work out at 2,357,960 pairs. Over the last three years ended March 31st the average annual output of Now Zealand factories shows 1,417,677 pairs, indicating that for every 100 pairs of boots of all classes made in the Dominion 167 pairs are imported. The above information is supplied in the "Abstract of Statistics" for October, which states that the United Kingdom supplied approximately 75 per cent, of the Dominion's imports in 1926', the great bulk of the balance coming from Canada and the United States of America. It is interesting to note that during the last five years the imports from the United Kingdom have increased (in number) by approximately 33 1-3 per cent., while the Canadian trade has quadrupled. The Australian trade has been sporadic during the last five years, ranging from 3422 donen pairs in 1922 to 616 dozen pairs in 1924. The statistics published relating to short time and overtime are regarded _ in many quarters as affording excellent indexes of the conditions ruling in an industry; that an abnormal amount of overtime spells prosperous times, and that an abnormal amount of short time means depressed conditions, with their usual concomitants, viz., operatives employed for part time only, etc. The overtime recorded in the boot and shoe industry during the year ended March 31st, 1927 (3787 hours), was slightly below the figure for the previous year. The short time, however, shows a substantial increase, having risen from 55,775 hours in 1925-20 to 104,565 hours in 1926-27, an increase of approximately 87 per cent. Female operatives suffered relatively more than males, the increase'in short time worked by the former being 172 per cent, over that recorded in 1925-26, against a relative increase of 65 per cent, in the case of males. Of the total hours short time Recorded in 1926-27, 73,141 hours were suffered by male operatives and 31,424 hours by female oporativos.

BAWRA DISTRIBUTES EIGHT MILLIONS. The liquidators of 8.A.W.R.A... Ltd. . (in liquidation) made their first distribution of the association assets on November 15th. Approximately 55,000 cheques were posted in Melbourne to those companies and Persona concerned, the distribution representing tie final capital payment of one shilling per shar» and a first liquidation payment of 12a 6d per share. • The total sum. involved in these two payments was approximately £8.000,000/ Previous to being placed in voluntary liquidation, B.A.W.U.A. made four distributions of funds on July 30th, 1921 47.5 per cent, of the face value of its priority wool certificates was paid off, the remaining 53.5 per cent, being retired on May 18th, 1922. If to that sum there be added the two amounts involved in the liquidators' distribution, the total of the moneys made available through B.A.W.R.A.S activities is brought up to £29,405,030. During the currency of the wool scheme the Central Wool Committee on October 27th, 1920, made a distribution of 5 per cent., which totalled £7,653,000.
