SUMNER ITEMS.
Personal. Mr W. V. Siddall, Town Clerk of Sumner for a good many years, has handed in his resignation. Mrs Rattray and Mrs Lee (Redcliffs) are spending a holiday at Otira. Mount Pleasant. A pathway in the form of a ramp has been constructed from the hill road to the main road. This gives a much better access to the tram stop. and to a certain extent should check any tendency to rush blindly on to the road in the face of traffic. Tennis. A series of fortnightly tournaments is being held by the Sumner Tennis Club .with the idea of reviving the interest of members, which last season appeared to be flagging. To date three tournaments have been played, resulting in wins for the following: First match—Mrs D. C. Cowan, R. H. Henley. Second match —Tie between C. Sherrard and H. A. Bishop. match —Miss Peggy Dean, R. H. Henley. Bowling. The following games have been played in the Sumner Club championships: Doubles —T. W. Johnson and E. A. Johnson beat H. Topping and J. 11. Thomas; C. Newman and W. Henley beat Wilson and If. D. Bates; J. Martin and T. F. Chambers beat G. W. Foster and T. Undrill; G. Forrest and W. F. Hampton beat J. C. McDonald and F. Edwards. Singles—J. Martin beat J. C. McDonald; G. Gosset beat E. A. Johnson; A. Graham beat H. C. Jones; H. J. Williams beat W. Stoneman; G.. Forrest beat C. Mulholland. The following are the progress results in the Gardiner Cup—C. Mulholland and A. Graham beat W. Henley and A. Pullan; H. J. Williams and G. Gosset beat T. W. Johnson and R. Clarke; H.. Gardiner and F. Edwards beat H. D. Bates and A. Topping. Band Concert. To-morrow afternoon an open air concert will be given by the Christchurch Municipal Band at the Cave Rock Rotunda. An excellent programme has been arranged, including solos by Messrs F. and H. Fox. Local Party. Mr and Mrs C. W. Bowman gave a party at their residence, in honour of their eldest son's twenty-first birthday. Tho evening was devoted to dancing. Musical items were contributed by Miss Ida Poynton and Messrs F. Fox and A. Hunnibell. The 1 rooms were prettily decorated with gay streamers' and the supper table daintily set out with rhododendrons and spring flowers. The dance music was played by Messrs F. Fox, L. Griffiths, T. Crisp, A. Hunnibell, K. Allen, and M. Bowman. Amongst those present were—Mr and Mrs W. McKenzie, Mr and Mrs W. Bowman, Mrs Roberts, Mrs L. Lavender, Mr and Mrs J. Fox, Mrs A.
