COURTENAY SHOW

FINE WEATHER AND GOOD ATTENDANCE. The ConrteDay A. and P. Association was favoured with beautiful weather for its annual show at Kirwce yesterday, when there was a -large attendance and everything weut off successfully. The eutries were not as large as in former years, and in some sections the quality of the exhibits was not up to the usual standard. There was a very good show of sheep on ;iie whole, especially of English Leicesters, Corriedales, and jjouthdowus, while there were also some good exhibits of merinos. Border Leicesters, Romney Marsh, and Shropshires. The fat sheep were mostly heavy weights, and although there were some good pens of fat lambs, the show of the latter was not equal to those that have been made in. the past. There was a fair entry of cattle, and a larger entry of pigs than usual, one large breeder sending a good collection. The sheep dogs made up what the judge described as the best lot he had seen at a country show. There was little competition in the draught-horse section, one breeder contributing the largest number of entries, and some good animals were ringed. Light horses were not up to what has usually been seen* on the ground, but there were .-orne good classes of cobs and -ponies. Few hunters took part in the competitions. The parade of prize stock drew a large gathering round the ring. There were fair collections of grain, seeds, roots, etc. The classes for household produce, cookery, and childfeu's school work as usual drew large entries and formed attractive features of the show. .Among other exhibits at the show was a collection of wood, 'grain, grasses, manures, etc., iron) the Christchurcb Technical ' College, under the charge of Dr. Hansen. This was niado with the object of turning the attention of boys to the following up ol agricultural and pastoral occupations instead of desiring to obtain employment in the City where the labour market was being over-supplied to the loss of the country districts. The exhibit was a very interesting one. and attracted much attention. The following were the winners of championships aud chief special prizes:— . Champion draught stallion, M. E.
