QUALITY IN ENGINEERING AND BRASS FOUNDING.

[Published by Arrangement.]

AN INTERESTING EXHIBITION BY W. H. PRICE AND SON. LTD. One of the most interesting and attractive exhibits at the A. and P. Royal Show is that of Messrs W. H. Price and Son, Ltd., pum D manufacturers, gear cutters, brass founders, and general engineers, of Manchester street, C'hristchurch. This enterprising firm has spared noither expense nor effort in producing one of the most comprehensive exhibits south of the Line, and which in detail is of a similar nature to that which so ablv upheld the products ot the Dominion at Wembley Exhibition in 1924-2.5. • An outstanding feature of tins unique exhibit is the "Renown double-acting, belt-driven (or direct coupled) service pump. This pump possesses many excellent features embodied in the design-paramount being its positive self-oiling system, which gives a perfect silent-running effect, due to all moving parts working in oil, and so evenly and effectively is this oil distributed that not one drop is thrown out when the cap is removed.. With the cap in place, however, all working parts are absolutely protected from dust. Moreover, the valve seats, spindles, eccentric strap, and guide are all made of special hard bronze, thus ensuring prolonged life and smooth running. Again, the valves can be also removed merely by unscrewing a cap, tfto whole pump-being revolutioneii on all previous makes, and so manufactured as to give the highest service. Without doubt the "Renown" pump lias first claim on a wide market, in view of its manifold up-to-date-ness—such a claim being justifiably well founded. The "Renown" can bo used for a variety of purposes, from household pumping to all water supply plants. Durable and efficient, this master pump is capable of supplying from 100 to 800 gallons of water per hour, and an extra boon is that all parts are interchangeable and renewable at small cost. Every pump before erection is thoroughly tested, and full working instructions are supplied with each outfit. In further testimony of its efficiency and effectiveness, a recent test showed that the "Renown" was capable of putting up a 400' feet head through 2000 feet of pipe line, and therefore it is recommended that those in quest of a pump which will give the highest satisfaction, and which has few equals as to low price, should not fail to call and see this master pump at work—just inside the main entrance at the Show.

Yet another pump, the "Pump Jack Outfit," is also on view, with the price £l2 10s plainly marked above it. This pump is on the plunger principle and is thoroughly reliable, and has a capacity of 100-200 gallons per hour, 20 feet suction, and a 30-60 foot head. The large number of satisfied purchasers is sufficient testimony to its popularity. Like the "Renown," all parts are easily renewed when necessary at a trifling cost. Other sections of this exhibition include a wide range of builders' and plumbers' requisites, samples of gearcutting for cars and trucks, motorbody builders' requisites (both in cast and stamping for fittings), cream and millr pumps of various sizes, fire brigndo equipment, articles necessary for breweries, a varied selection of'ecclesiastical brassware, hand bells, church and school bells, bucket spray pumps, and hand spray pumps, which years of experience have improved and brought to such a state of perfection that they now excel all ethers of their kind on the market.

Such, a display, and even so diversified an exhibition, can, however, be seen daily in the show rooms at 34 Manchester street, from where specimens of actual stock only have beon taken for exhibition purposes at_ all the important exhibitions held since those of 1881-82 in South Park, Christchurch, and 1887 in Melbourne. This alone speaks volumes for the quality of material and the thoroughness of workmanship. Visitors to the Show are provided with every advantage to inspect this wonderful exhibit, and experts are at hand to offer a full explanation as to thg uses of all articles on view. Messrs Price and Son, Ltd , have now been in business for nearly half a century, and their name has become a household word throughout the length of the Dominion; and so much so was this in evidence that during'the Christchurch Exhibition of 1922-23, pleasant recollections can, no doubt, be recalled when his Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe, was so fascinated with the numerous and high-class exhibits tint he long overstayod the time mapped out by the officials. In summing up this most wonderful exhibition of craftsmanship, one might truly say that there is nothing in the metal line that this firm cannot handle. —6'
