BOROUGH COUNCILS.

* KAIAPOI. The fortnightly meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council was held last night. Present: The Deputy-Mayor (Mr H. Mcintosh), Crs ; F. Thome, E. J. Dunn, J. D. Williams, F. Debenham, E. J. Pollard, A. Linklater, W. H. A. Vickery, and D. Whyte. The secretary, Kaiapoi United Friendly Societies, wrote, asking permission to erect signs at the main bridge advertising their excursion to be held in January, and also for the use of the lobby of the Council Chambers for selling tickets. —Permission was granted. Permission was granted St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Kaiapoi, to hold a street stall in High street, in front of the Council Chambers, on November ISth. Mr E. Thorpe wrote complaining of the grazing of cattle in Otaki street, and asked the Council to take steps to have the nuisance abated.—lt was decided to request the owner o£ the cattle to abate the nuisance, otherwise legal proceedings would be taken. The secretary, Kaiapoi Working Men s Club, wrote protesting against the price charged (7s) by the Electrical Department for installing a new fuse and bridge. The committee considered the charge exorbitant, in view of the short time spent on the work. —lt was decided to reply that the price charged was not exorbitant. The Chief Postmaster, Christchurch, wrote drawing attention to the drinking fountain ereci"'l in Cookson street, which drew its supply from the Post Office artefi.'ii well, anrf Afckincr if tha Canneil would make Other

arrangements for the supply of water, as no trace of any authority could be found giving the Council the right to use the department s water supply for this purpose.—-It cided that the Deputy-Mayor and Town Clerk interview the postmaster at Kaiapoi on ttve matter. _ , The Clerk, Eyre County Council, wrote forwarding tracing and particulars of 'he Willock Settlement being part of the t,yre County, which it is proposed to include in the borough.—The letter was received. Messrs Papprill, Salter, and Gresson wrote advising that they had been approached by lessees of sections on the east side ot the road running from Kairaki to the Pines. It the Council proposed to grant leases in this portion of the reserve it would be necessary to consider the question of having the sections surveyed.—The letter was referred to the Reserves Committee. , Mr D. G. McKenzie wTote applying for tho transfer of the section standing in his name at the "Pines" to Mr R. G. Brown. The transfer was agreed to. . , The secretary, Kaiapoi Tennis Club, wrote asking permission to connect a 31° P*P® the tennis pavilion from the water supply at the public baths.—Permission was granted. The Mavor and Cr. Mcintosh were ap« pointed to "represent the Council at a conference with members of the Waimakariri River Trust and Kairaki residents, with reference to the transfer of Kairaki to the control of the River Trust.
