Sehool Examinations. ' The proficiency examination of pupils of Standard VI: of the local schools commenced yesterday. The examination will he completed when the Education Board's inspector visits Lyttelton later in the month. Reclamation Area. Although the' work of laying out the reclamation area handed over by the Harbour Board to the Lyttelton Borough Council for a recreation ground is far from complete, it is already being put to considerable use. During the winter hockey matches were played regularly on the new ground, and at present it is being used by children and adults for athletic training. On Saturday afternoon the local territorials made uee of the area as a drill ground. Taney Dress Social. The St. Saviour's Girls' Friendly Society held their annual children's fancy dress scoial in St. Saviour's Schoolroom on Friday night. There was a very large attendance of children and adults. Mesdames J. Morgan, and McVinnie, both of Heathcote, were the judges, and awarded prizes as follows: —Honor Plimmer (Spanish Dancer), Joan Shale-George (Folly), Phyllis Barnes (Tennis), Gladys Dennis (Lone Hand), Daphne Donnelly (Little Miss), Fred Priddy (Rajah), Maurice Nolan (Indian), Alan Donnelly (Indian Chief). Others present included: Pauline Shale-George (Jazz Pierrette), Valerie Hunter (Early Victorian), Myrtle Pascoe (Jingle Bells), Betty Morgan, Edna MeVinnie, Joyce Hope, Jack and lan Morgan, Norman and James "die, Albert Odie, Billie Potts, Misses Scott, D. Hoyle, MeVinnie, M. Costello, Burberry, Mills, Roder, Nolan (2), Davis, Davidson, Eaton (2), Donnelly, Neil, Thompson, Wales (2), Mather, Lewin, Mesdames T. M. Cur now, W. Newton, Plimmer, G. Morris, Roaer, Priddy, T. Wales, Foster, Dennis, Mackay, Jack, Keith. J. Morgan, McVinnic Burberry, Messrs T. M. Curnow, H. Fletcher, B. Huston, J. Gower, Warbnrton, Dennis, D. and J. Wallace, T.
