MUCH DISTRESS. , RELIEF DEPOT'S BUSY DAY. Very numerous were the applications for assistance received at the Relief Depot on Saturday, S,* many people: were short of- foodstuffs. At the• Labour Departments Unemployment Bureau, eight men, five. ■or them married, applied for work. Fourteen were placed in private employment, .and 25 were selected for relief, work at Parnassus. ',. t i Work, is nearly fimshed on the Lake Sumner road, which is employing 110 men. at-relief rates of pay. The now formation uhould be completed for use within two months. . On Saturday, the Mayor (Mr J; KArcher) was waited upon by Messrs Solomon and' Conquest, the former or whom is a member of the unemployed, with a request that he support the holding.of tf raffle for two,model aeroplanes, made-by themselves, the proceeds to be devoted-.to unemployment relief. The models are complete down to a machine, gunner and wireless and searchlight equipment. j CITIZENS' UNEMPLOYMENT BELIEF FUND.,
