THE SYNOD.
CONCLUDING SESSION. .After a protracted sitting last night Diocesan Synod succeeded in finishing up business. His Lordship Bishop West-Watson presided. The Eev. E. G. W. Powell moved: "That the Standing Committee be requested to provide, for the use of Chaplains, on duty at future military camps, a portable Holy Table and ornaments, Communion vessels, and Communion Linen, and that "the equipment belonging to the Church be put in good order and repair." The motion was carried. On the motion of Mr E. H. S. Hamilton, it was decided to' introduce some such system of parochial finance as the Duplex Envelope system. .It was resolved to request the Standing Committee to consider the question of increasing the grants towards the building of vicarages. . Insurance of Clergy. Mr E. H. S..Hamilton moved: "That Standing Committee be requested to consider the question of instituting, a Diocesan scheme of insurance of the Bishop and. Clergy of the Diocese against, sickness and accident; and that in the meantime the parishes and_ parochial districts be urged to so insure their'parochial dergy through the Diocesan Registrar." The motion was agreed to. It was resolved to call a special meeting of Synod before June next to consider, the report of the Commission on finance. •Proposed Archdeaconry. •Mr E. J. Ross moved: "That this Synod approves of the proposal to constitute a fourth Archdeaconry, and respectfully recommends the Bishop to re-arrange and define tentatively the boundaries of this and the other Archdeaconries as he may think best, and to ■> report the arrangements mado to this Synod." The motion was carried. . 'General Synod Bspresentatives. The following were nominated as representatives to the General Synod: Archdeacons J. A. Julius, F. N. Taylor, [ Canon J. de B. Galwey, Messrs H. D. Andrews, 6. H. Stening, and E. G. Hogg; Education Board. The following were elected as a Diocesan. Board of Education: Archdeacon • J. A. Julius, Canon J. de B. Galwey, the Eevs. E. C. Crosse, .E. E. Maiden. S. Parr, Mesdames L. W. Joughin, and C. L. Young; Misses M. 'E. Laurell and M. V. Gibson, Messrs W..E. D. Bishop, C. E. Ferris, and C. H. Clibborn. Fundamental Clauses After further discussion on the proposed amendment •; of the fundamental clauses the following motion was passed: • "That the. Christchurch Diocesan Synod. approves of an application to Parliament for legislation making it lawful for General Synod to alter or amend the. provisions declared by the constitution to be fundamental, and if General Synod provides adequate safeguards for securing the continuity of the doctrine of the Church, approves of the general lines of the draft Bill of 1925.", A''Commission was set up for consideration of the ministry of ..women. The principal object was to develop the work' of, the ordained deaconhesses in the-diocese.
