ST. ALBANS CLUB.

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES

The St. Albans Cricket Club, which has been in existence just over 20 years, held its annual smoke concert in Turnbull and Jones's showrooms on Saturday night, Mr C. S. Thompson presiding in the absence of the president, Mr J. S. Barrett.

Welcoming the members, Mr Thompson said that during the long life of the club there had been very little dissension, and- some veryvaluable traditions had been established. Two members, Hickmott and Crawshaw, had paid the supreme sacrifice at the war, and one of those cricketers, had ho lived, would have to England with the first eleven. Mr 1. W. Reese had been connected with the club smco its inception, n distinction of ivhich the members were proud. The chairman then presented the following prizes:—Enlarged photograph of 1925-26 senior team, which won the competition, to the captain, D. McK. Sandman; bat, presented by Mr A. J. O'Malley for the best batting average in the senior team, to F. Wood; ball, presented by Mr R. Macßeady, for tho best bowling average in the senior team, to D. Sandman; ball, presented by Mr.A. Rose, for best bowling average in senior B team, to P. Martin; bat, presented by Mr A. Wright, for best batting average in senior B team, to P. Martin; fountain pen, presented by the club, to the scorer, Mr MacDougall; gold medal, for the most improved player in the club, presented by Mr Geo. Mitchell, to F. O'Brien; fountain pen, presented by the club, to Mr Griffiths, scorer of the senior B team.

A short toast list was gone through during the evening, and items wero given by Messrs A. Dey, U. J. Hobbs, H. Hobbs, B. Russell, B. Rcnnell, F. H. Vincent, and W. Toomey. Tho toasts were as follows:—-Canterbury Cricket Association, proposed by Mr R. 11. North, responded to by Mr W. Simpson; St. Albans Club, proposed by Mr Hobbs, responded to by Mr S. Hickmott; ".Kindred Sports." proposed by Mr Hobbs, responded to by Mr A. Dey; and "The Press," proposed by Mr A. Wright.

RANGIORA CLUB. The Rangiora Cricket Club opened its season on Saturday with a friendly game between the senior team and a team from the East Christchurch Club. A nor'-wester was blowing, but it was not strong enough to interfere with the play, which took place on the High School ground. East Christchurch batted first and scored 81 (J. Phelps 26, J. McEwin 23, J. Flood 11). Rangiora made 59 (C. Mehrtens 15, A. L. Lockhart 14). Bowling for Rangiora, Roberts took three wickets for 20, H. Kinley five for 36, and L. Chappell one for 5. For East Christchurch, J. McEwin took three for 22, J. Flood two for 5, A. Jones two for 15, and T. Kennedy three fop 10. NORTH CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The North Canterbury Cricket Association's competitions commenced on Saturday under good weather conditions. SENIOR GRADE. Two;day matches are to be played in this grade. Loburn, first innings 142 (Parker 24, Croft 22, Metherell 15 not out. Cook 14, Hill 12), met Oxford, 4 for two wickets when stumps were drawn. Bowling for Oxford, Debenham took throe wickets for 17 runs and 11. Peary two for 7. SECOND GRADE—JUNIOR A. ' In this grade two-day matches are to be played. Swahnanoa 150 (Fidler 46, Court 28, Doidge 19, Patterson 16, J. McHugh 11) met Eyreton two for 60 (Shepherd 40 not out) when stumps were drawn. For Eyreton, Cherry took three wickets for 11, Giddons two for 30, H. Bennett two for 33.. SECOND GRADE—JUNIOR B. Eyreton 93 (A. Cherry 38, N. Cherry'l6, A. P. Smith 11, H. Beal 10) beat Fernside A 52 (G. Milne 21, 0. Hinton 16). Bowling for Eyreton, B. Pearce took six wickets for 4 runs and H. Beal two for 6. For Fernside, Milne took four for 33 and Minchirigton four for 7. Rangiora 42 (D. 11. Garrett 13) beat Loburn 39 (M. Cook 13). For Rangiora, W. Steele took four wickets for 7 runs and A. Benzie two for 8. For Loburn, D. Hoskius took five for 5 and J. Galletley three for 22. Woodond 171 (A. Appleton 47, R. Smith 44, R. Derbidgo 17, R. Ballinger 14 not out, W. Eder 14) secured a three-point win from Sefton 53 (B. Ford 12, J. Cameron,lo). R. Smith, R. Derbidge, S. Mathias, and F. Solomon bowled best for tho winners, and G. Hales, C. Pctrie, and J. Morris wero the best for Sefton.
