WAR GUILT.
PRESIDENT HINDENBURG'S SPEECH. DR. STRESEMANN'S SURPRISE. (by cable—pbzss association—coptbight). (AUSTRALIA* JJTD H.Z. AND StTJt CABLI.) (Received September 25th, 5.6 p.m.) PARIS, September 24. "Le Matin's" correspondent states that in an interview Dr. Stresemann said: "I am surprised at the sensation caused by President Hindenburg's speech. It contained nothing which myself or Dr. Marx have not previously said. President Hindenburg only expressed the opinion held throughout Germany when he said that we fought to defend ourselves, resenting as a serious wrong the doctrine attributing to Germany the sole responsibility for war horrors. We cannot bow before the verdict in a case in which the plaintiffs are also the judges."
