LACK OF CAPITAL.
COLONIES TURNING TO U.S.A. (BT cable—pbebs association— copyright). (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received September 25th, 5.15 p.m.) LONDON, September 24. Unable to obtain capital here, the Colonies are turning to America, said Sir Gfeorge Paish, at the Cambridge , National Savings Meeting, £100,000,000, placed in the colonies, would give a return of from £100,000,000 to £200,000,000 in increased trade." He proceeded to argue that people were not saving enough; £200,000,000 to £300,000,000 more were needed yearly to get back to the pre-war standard of thrift. Britain's heavy industries were suffering from lack of capital, which were the cause of unemployment. Agriculture throughout the world was depressed because people could not afford toMjuy food. If a trade boom occurred, there would be a food shortage because it takes five years to increase the world's food supply. When the country knew the position, it would demand that right should be taken.
