Jamieson. i Mr Dalley was also elected a life member. ' Horse Parade. . The entries for the annual horse parade of the Ashburton A. and P. Association to be held on the Show Grounds to-morrow morning, are equal to those of last year, and it is expected that about twenty horses will be .paraded. For all farmers who are interested the Association has arranged for a demonstration on wool to be given by .Mr H. Silverwood, of the Ashburton Woollen Mills, and a demonstration on sheep, particularly the Ryeland, to be giVen by Mr H. C. B. Withell, at the Farmers' Co-op. Association auction mart at 2 p.m. ■_.'•■ Homing Pigeon Club. .'.•'•• Under the auspices of the Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club a pen match was contested from Ashburton on Saturday, there being 18 pens competing. Each pen was liberated at five minute intervals after 10 a.m., by the railway authorities, but the birds were slightly handicapped by the, strong north-west wind, which was blowing at the time. Motor-Cyclist Injured. As the result of a head-on collision with a horse and trap driven by J. W. Thomas, on Thompson's Track, Lauriston, a motor-cyclist named J. Johansen, .was admitted to the Ashburton County Hospital on Friday evening, suffering from abrasions to the face, and injuries to a shoulder. His condition is not serious. Unemployment Tund. As a result of the exhibition of national dancing given on East street reserve on Friday by local dancers under the auspices o£ the Ashburton County Pipe Band, close. on £2O was collected for the unemployment fund in Ashburton. Mr H. .Sinclair, chief of the Scottish Society, entertained the dancers during the evening. Sports Fixtures. The chief attraction in sporting circles in Ashburton on.Saturday, was the Ashburton Racing Club's Spring Meeting. All Bugby competitions being dethe senior representative team journeyed to Christchurch and contested a p match against Canterbury B. Hockey enthusiasts were provided with some, good entertainment oh the Domain when the Ashburton Ladies' Hockey Association's open six-a-side tournaments were decided, there being many teamufrom oustide centres competing. St. Stephen's Fete. The St. Stephen's Spring Flower Show which was opened on Friday concluded >on Saturday evening. The function was well patronised during the afternoon and evening. . Glenie being first with 69/ and Mrs 0. Haulton second with 62. It was decided to send a letter to Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., congratulating him on the •success of the Summer Time Bill. On the motion of Mr J. B. Nicoll, it was decided that during the operation of the Bill, the competitions be played until 7 p.m.

It was agreed that two town teams together with Fairfield and Eakaia comj prise one section, and the remaining two - teams, together with Methven and Laur riston, comprise the other section. Ad open six-a-side hockey tournament con'r ducted by the Ashburton Hockey Association was played on the Ashburton Domain on i Saturday. Sixteen teams competed, five senior t and. eleven junior. The games were well coni tested, and five games were won by a \hit " over the line. The finals of both grades were : good, the junior game being especially closely contested and exciting. Methven met Rakaia in the final o£ the seniors, the former team being the better. The half-time score was 1-0 in favour of Methven, this team adding another goal in the second half. The final of the junior grade was between Old Girls and Kia Ora. Old l Girls won by a hit over the line after an es- ( tended game.' The Mayor (Mr R. Galbraith) presented the medals to the captains of the -winning teams, and extended his congratulations. The following were the results:— SENIOR GRADE. ; First Round—Methven 1 beat Old Girls A 0. HIGHBANK. A very successful gift afternoon was held at.Mrs S. Welly's residence at Highbank on Friday, in aid of the Highbank stall at the forthcoming fair to be held under the auspices of the Methven parochial district. The day was beautifully fine and there was a large attendance of supporters. Several competitions were held and these were' won by Mesdames R. Tooley, T. Grant, D. Chambers, and J. Law. A large number of useful gifts were ceived in aid of the stall. Much credit is due to Mesdames C. H. Watson, J. Suckling, and F. G. Mangin for their efforts in making the function such an outstanding success. Before dispersing the vicar, the Rev. F. A. Tooley, expressed his thanks to Mrs Weily for the use of the grounds, also to the many ladies who had assisted at the function; ■ .'■ PENDARVES. There was an exceptionally good attendance at the monthly euchre tournament, held in the hall on Friday evening. Mr A. P. Bruce controlled the games. The ladies' prizes were won by Mrs J. B. Lambie, U7 points; Mrs A Doig (Chertsey), 142; Miss E Doig 139. Tor the men's prizes Mr F. Ironside was first with. 171 points; Mr J Beattie, 156; Mr B. Trott, 153. After supper a dance was'held, the music being supplied by Mrs W. Cain/ Miss E. Ironside, and Mr W. E. Raine. - Miss I. Halliday has returned from Waimate. • Miss Bosina Halliday (Waimate) is spending a few, days with her sister at "Selma." '.,. .
