PERSONAL. (special to THE P3ESS.) GREYMOUTH, September 23. Mr S. Ingram, general secretary of the Railway Tradesmen's Association, will arrive to-morrow from Christchurch. Miss Smeaton, town clerk at Bruuner, who was operated upon at the GreyHospital this week, is making satisfactory progress. On the occasion of his approaching marriage Mr B. M. Davis, mathematical and science master at the Grey Technical School, was met this afternoon by the staff of the school and presented with a cut glass salad bowl and servers as a wedding . present. The presentation was made by the Principal, Mr J. Hutton.

Mr A. McLuskie, Blackball, is an inmate of the Grey Hospital. Mr Harry Cotter, of Runanga, underwent a successful operation at Lswishani Hospital yesterday and will be able to return to the "West Coast next week. Mr and Mrs AY. Donovan leave tomorrow on a holiday trip to Hunterville.

Mri B. Michel (Cobdeu) leaves to morrow for Palmerston North.

Mrs J. Galligan (Murray street), who is a patient at Lewisham Hospital, is making good progress towards recovery. The funeral of the late James Moore, of Stillwater, took place at the Karoro Cemetery this morning, when there was a large attendance of mourners. The services at St. Patrick's Church and the graveside were conducted by the Rev. Father Gregory. Old Boys' Association. At the annual meeting of the AYest Coast Old Boys' Association the following officers were elected: Patron, Mr G. E. Perkins; president, Mr J. Stubbs; vice-presidents, Messrs K. Groom, T. Scott, and AV. Garth; committee, Messrs AV. Barrow, P. Smith, J. Keating, AV. Bade, AV. AVeir, G. Perotti, T. Clark, C. Hodgkinson, and A. Coumbe; treasurer, Mr G. E. Perkins; auditor, Mr P. C. Heaphy; honorary musician, Mr G. Perotti. Blackball Mine. Owing to the presence, of large blowers of carbon dioxide in the main dip of the Blackball mine, the management proposes to utilise the dip section for ventilating purposes. Roa Mine Idle. Owing to the dismissal of a trucker the Roa mine was idle on Tuesday. The management agreed to reinstate the dismissed-employee in another section of the mine, and work was resumed on AA r ednesday. Dobson Relief Fund. A copy of the Supreme Court order furnishing particulars of the trusts in the Dobson Relief Fund-has been received by the District Public Trustee. All moneys raised in connexion with the disaster are to be invested in the common fund of the Public Trust Office, and the allocations to the families affected are in accordance with the degree of the dependence of the beneficiaries. The trustees appointed are: Messrs AV. H. Parfitt, J. O'Brien, the Mayor of Greymouth, and the president of the Grey A 7 alley Miners' Union. Grey Patriotic Association. The eleventh annual meeting of the Greymouth Patriotic Association was held this afternoon, the Mayor (Mr J. AV. Greenslade) presiding. The annual report referred to the death of Captain AV. S. Colclough, who, for six and a half years, had held the secretaryship of the Association. The sum of £339 6s was paid in grants to soldiers and their dependents, and the general expenses and secretary's salary for the year .amounted to £44 16s 2d. The total funds of the Society at the end of the year amounted to £2441 5s lOd.

The report was adopted. • A meeting of the committee was subsequently held, the Mayor (Mr J. AV. Greenslade) presiding. ( Votes of condolence were passed to Messrs D. McKay and J. E.'.Perkins in their recent bereavements. Association Football. The AVestland team to play Buller for the Emms Shield on October Ist at Westpoft has been selected as follows: Ennor (Runanga), King (Dobson), Moore (Blackball), Marshall (D.), Barnes (Runanga),. .Cbwe (Rewanui), Hewittson.(Runanga), Rarity. (B.), McNeill (Rewanui), Pickering (Runanga); AVinstanley (Runanga); .-reserve, Clark (B.). Rarity "has been appointed captain, and McNeil vice-captain. Mr Airey has been appointed, manager, Mr Bell trainer, and Mr Sharp linesman. Mine Workers' Ballot. The. results of the second ballot by the United Mine AVorkers for .the offices of president and Australian, delegate were as follows:—President: Hayward 1728, AVood 1114; majority for Hayward, 614. Australian delegate: Hayward 1634, AVood 1217; majority for Hayward, 417.
