TO-DAY'S RACES. The Spring Meeting of the AVondale Jockey Club will be opened on the Ellerslie racecourse to-day, and concluded on Monday. Latest advices state that the track will be very heavy, as a result of continuous rain. The programme is as follows, the first race, the Maiden Plate, to be run in two divisions, starting at 11.45 a.m.:—

The committee of the Banks Peninsula Racing Club met on Wednesday, Mr Morten presiding. There were also present:— Messrs W. F. Parkinson, E. E. Nutt, Watson, Rennie, and F. Coop. It was decided to ask Messrs J. McCombs, D. Jones, and H. S. S. Kyle M.P.'s, to support the Gaming Amendment Act. The chairman, reported that trees had been planted at the foot of the hill, the gift o£ Mr R. Nairn, for which motions of thanks to Mr Nairn and the chairman were passed. OAMARU J.C.
