OBITUARY.
MR JOHN AITCHISON. Miv John AitchLsou died at his residence, Langdown's road, Pananui, last week. The late Mr Ait.chison, who was in his 80th year at the time of. his death, was born at Bothwcll, Lanarkshire, Scotland, in. 1848, and ..tor a number of years conducted a butchery establishment' iii : dlasgow. Ho came to New Zealand, with his wife and family of eight, in 1901, 'b;'ut returned to Scotland a year later'; ; Jle migrated a second time in lOOoi, ajul joined the staff of H. Matspiijand Co., and; i'emained with them for" nine years. Ho then entered into business on his own account as a meat exporter and became: •very well known throughout Canterbury as a stock buyer. He was avaliied member of the Papanui .Bowling Club, and was held in the highest, esteem by a wide circle of friends and business associates. "He is sur-. vived by a' widow, three sons, William (Invercargill), Robert (Christchufch), and John (Auckland), and .three daughters, Mesdames A. Muir (Marton), Geo. Mcintosh (llangiora), and Anniss (Mad-enzio Country). :.'.:'■••'•.

[Sir Arthur Shipley has long been connected r.witli. scientific research in England; zoology'being his main study. Bellas, however, been prominent in many other branches of science. He was' ViceChancellor of Cambridge University, from 1917 to 1919. He has published many books .on scientific subjects.]
