SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mr J., R. Bruce has returned from Christchureh. Mr R. B, Bell lias returned from the north. The Rev. Professor Dickie, D.D. (Dunedin) arrived in Timaru on Thursday. The Rev. W. A, Sinclair is visiting Timaru. Mr C. J. C. Cussen, Government Poultry Expert, is visiting Timaru. • Accountants' Meeting. Speaking at the annual .meeting of the South Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Society .of Accountants, the chairman (Mr P. B. Foote) said that there was a. lack of interest amongst students in Timaru, as a result of which the Accountant Students' Society had been unable to arrange a. session during the winter months. It had been decided that representatives of the branch confer with the Technical College Board, to discuss proposals regarding the extension of courses in accountancy subjects to meet the Society's examination standard. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —Chairman, Mr P. B. Foote; secretary, Mr J. Leggott; committee, Messrs C. Dash, W. Allport, A. Wilson, J. McKennali, A.. J. Allport, and G. Reporting on the visit of the Harbour ■ Board.'s delegates' to Wellington, jyhere they gave evidence regarding the Harbour Improvement Loan Bill, before the Local Bills Committee, Mr- G. T. Dawson, at a meeting of the Board yesiterday, stated that , the Committee appeared, to be ' quite satisfied with the evidence. Mr M. Myers had put it to the Committee that the: passing of the Bill was merely, a.matter of form for, even if it passed the two Houses, there were still two safeguards. One was the Local Bodies Loans Board, which would be concerned about the financial aspect of the Bill, and then the ratepayers by a three-fifths majority of votes would have to a/pprove of the loan. Representative Rugby. . The South Canterbury and North Otago Rugby representatives will meet again to-day, this being the third match between the Unions- this year. Today's match will be-played at Waimate as it ■ has been -arrange" to give the Waimate Sub-Union financial assistance by providing a match that should be largely attended. When the teams met at Oairiaru prior to the South Canterbury tour of the North Island the match resulted in a draw, and when they, met again here, South Canterbury won by one point, and to-day's match, has attracted "a amount of public interest. . .
