AUCTIONS. . H. MATSON. AND 00. Report of clearing sales CONDUCTED BY MESSRS H. MATSON and CO. ' DURING THE PABT FOUR MONTHS. On behalf of MR W. J. LTJGG, Springston, on May 23rd, who, having relinquished contracting, favoured us with the handling of hiß sale. There was a good attendance of the public, and we had the pleasure of effecting' a moat satisfactory realisation for all lots offered. The principal lota sold at the following rates:—Tip drpy £l2, gig £l3, plough £3 10s, 3-leaf harrows £4, blocks and chains £2 ss, dray saddle and breaching £4, 1 eight-year-old gelding £32, nine-year-old gelding £27, eight-year-old gelding £37, seven-year-old gelding £36. aged gelding £ll, three-year-old filly by Wiidwood Junior £ls 10s. On behalf of MESSRS WICKLIFFE and HANSON, Dunsandel, on May 26th, .we held a most successful sale of live and dead stock, including their dairy herd. This sale was well attended by farmers from all quarters, and was "one of the best realisations in the district for some considerable time. The following sales were made:—Four-yew-old gelding £27, aged gelding £7, eight-year-old mare £l4, seven-yoar-old mare £26, aged mare £ll, 1 cob £8 10s, three-year-old filly £3O, yearling filly £l7, yearling filly £lli, aged gelding £2O; also, 50 backward springers and cows in profit from £4 10s to £6 15s, 15 heifers £2 to £3 10b, plough £3 10s, discs £l3 10s, mower £9, grubber £4 15s, electric motor £4 10s, 60 aged ewes 15s, 41 store pigs 38s to 595, sows and litters £7 5s to £lO 10s, 2 cows £6 2s 6d. On behalf ot MR T. N. LOUGHLIN, Southbridge, on June 2nd. This was not ] a very large sale, but the attendance was good nevertheless, Included in the offering was the dairy herd. Everything Was sold under the hammer at prices in favour of the vendor, as the following prices will show: — Chain harrows £lO, 4-leaf harrows £§, plough £5, blocks and chains £3 ss, Planet Jnr. £2 10s, binder £lO, cultivator £lO, 'dray and frame £9, do. £3l, 65-gal. separator £l4; 10 dairy cows, late calvers, £2 10s to £4 15s; aged gelding £2O, aged gelding £7, aged mare £8 10s; also,-quantity of furniture and effects at satisfactory rates. On behalf of MR H. VERCOE, Motukarara, on June 13th. At this sale every lot was sold at exceptionally good prices, there being a representative attendance, and must have been one of the most successful sales in the particular district. The principal transactions at this sale were: Four-year-old unbroken gelding £lO 10s, four yearling heifers 255, 20 cows and heifers, late calvers, £3 to £7 ss; separator £ls, 5 cows £4 to £6 10s, 1 hog £4 10s. On behalf of MR JOHN JONES, Templetou, on June 20th. - Having sold his property, we conducted a complete clearing sale on behalf of the above vendor. This undoubtedly was a real good sale throughout, buyers being present from miles round in large numbers, and bidding was animated at the outset. The principal offerings were realised as follows: —Scales £5 10s, 100 second-hand sacks It 2d, anvil £2, second-hand stakes 32s fid per 100, 4-leaf harrows £3 10s, moulder £3 2s 6d, binder £l4, cart £3 15s, discs £5, roller £ll, plough £l6, block and chains £2, old drill £4 10s, drill £32, dray £ls, two-stand shearing plant. £3l 10s, 1 cow £7, 1 cow £9 10b. 60 aged haJfbred ewes 18s 6d, 50 three-qaarterbred two-tooth ewes 295, fowls 7s 6d per pair, aged gelding £ll. On behalf of ESTATE L. A. GABBATIES, Halswall, on June 21st, we conducted a small clearing sale, but every endeavour was made to secure top prices, which -was not without success. The following were a 1 few <sf the prices for various lots: —Hay £5, plough £B, potato digger £6, pigs £2 Cb each, half-draught gelding £5 15s, 1 cow £4 15s, and a host of sundries, furniture, etc. On behalf of MR B. JARDEN, Takamatua, on August 4th. Owing to Mr Jarden's lease having expired, we held a clearing sale of his dairy herd, together with the farm sundries. Farmers and factory suppliers were present from the various Bays and fropi Little lliver, and one of the best sales of milch cows and springers on the Peninsula for s'ome time was witnessed. Twenty-two cows, from second calvers to aged, realised to £ll ss, and averaged over £9. Also the following sales were mpde:—Halfdraught gelding £3l, cart harness £5, saddle and bridle £6 2s 6d, grass mower £ll, spring dray £ll. On behalf of MR J. S. HALL, Halswell, on August 18th. Another dairy herd and host of farm implements and sundries were submitted by us at prices to the satisfac- > tion of the vendor. Being conducted in a closely-settled area, there was consequently • good attendance. Wo made the following sales:—Spring dray £5, tip dray £2o,° roller £l4 10s, drill £26, cultivator £B, harrows £5 10s, 4-leaf harrows £5 10s, chain harrows £7 ss, hay rake £7 10s, d.f. plough £6, grass mower £5,. binder -£2O, .1 sow £6, dairy cows up to £l4- 10s, eight-year-old geldings £26 Ws, eight-year-old mare £2B, seven-year-old ware £45, colt foal £2O. On behalf of MR H. SCOTT, Tai Tapu, on August 19th. Although this Avas only a small sale, we are justified in reporting it, owing to the favourable realisation which was effected by our auctioneer. The sales made were:—Separator £4, grass mqwer £l3 10s, hay rake 21 15s, cows up to £6. On behalf of MR F. THO'RNE, Kaiapoi, on Aupust 22nd. This sale comprised a very mc!e herd of cows, which were a feature of the sale. The prices realised were 'another feature which marks the. sale as being the best in the district for jlairy cows for some time past, and the auctioneers put in a lot ot good work in effecting the realisation. The herd, comprising 11 cows, realised from £6 10s to £l2, 1 heifer £5 ss, 2 "sows £8 15s, and £8 17s fid, two stacks hay £l2 and £lO 10s M 1 hog £3 15s, 4 calves £2 each. On behalf of MR AMOS WRIGHT, View Hill, on August 29th. This sale marks another soeeeistul realisation which we had the pleasure of conducting. The attendance was good, and buyers bid freely for any lots they required up to prices beneficial to the vendor, which the following prices will ■how: — Bay gelding £l7 10s, aged , gelding £5, 17 cows realised up to £lO 17s 6d, yearlings 36s each, bull £5 12s 6d, two-year-old steers H 16s, d.f. plough £7, grubber £2 10s, cultivator £5 10s, harrows £2. 15s, mower £7 10s, dray £l4, dray £lO 10s, stack sheaves £l3 10s. On brtalf of MR A. F. LE, LIEVRE, Akaroa, on September 15th. That the dairying industry is coming back to its own was marked by the exceptional values realised for a herd of just over 50 cows, conducted by our Finn. 1 At no stage did the bidding let up, consequenlty another dairy herd passed at good money; also a lew sundries were offered. The whole herd iof cows realised £5 5s to £l2 15s. On behalf of MR J. HOUSTON, Prebbleton, on September 19th. It must be admitted that this also was a very satisfactory realisation of live and dead stock, the surrounding districts being well represented, and we are pleased to be able to give a good account of ourselves as to prices obtained. Sow and litter £5 7s 6d, mare £29, black mare £2B" 10s, bay gelding £lB 10s, pony £ls, tows from £9 10s to £ll 15s, plough £B, gig £l7, separator £ll, Planet Jnr. £2 ss, and a holt of furniture, piano, etc., including sewing machine £9. . On behalf of MR A. SEARLE, Swannanoa, on September 15th. This sale represents another of our successes in conducting clearing sales, inasmuch that no sale in the district has yet excelled it.
