WAGES FOR MILITARY TRAINEES
* TO TUE EDITOR OF- THE PRESS. gj r your column in last Saturday's P.RES3 under heading of.'"Trainees'-Wages," it seems perfectly plain where our'so-called patriotism begins and ends. Some people seem quite hysterical at the thought of having to-contribute. a fortnight's iViiges to"the lads that are in the unfortunate position of having to go into camp annually'.at the bequest of the Government. After all, a fully-quali-tied and conscientious soldier is a' good investment from- an Imperialist and commercial point of view. It is fast becoming a recognised fact that it is for the personal interest of employers generally that military training exists iit all. In tinies of "strife, I notice thai "our lads" are patted on the bf.ck, but when matters are adjusted to the satisfaction of "patriots," their .interest-in our-Jieroes tends to diminish.—Yours, etc.," " . ■! SERIOUS. HawardeD, September -19 th.:
