CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND.
SPREYDON RESIDENTS MEET. \ i A public meeting of Spreydon residents was held in the Barrington street Council Chambers last night to allow ' the residents the opportunity of deciding the location of the children's playground in Barrington Park. Unfortunately, the room would not accommodate all those who attended the meeting, with the result that proceedings were continually interrupted by interjections from outside the building. Cr. G. Manning presided. Mr H. Gunn moved, and Mr Dell seconded, that the children's playground be placed alongside the croquet, tennis, and bowling greens, to be 30ft in width, and to have a wire fence separating it from the football and cricket areas.
| Several speakers objected to this location, stating that it would be unsightly, and would also be inconvenient for those entering the park. Mr Seott moved as an amendment that the ground be placed on the old Church property, 18ft from the creek, with a six feet fence separating it from the creek, and also with a hedge separating it from the other areas. ' The amendment was strongly opposed on the ground that it was the most unhealthy part of the park, and was near the creek which drained the park. Thus, not only would it be dangerous, but it would also be damp. The motion and the amendment were put to the meeting, the motion being carried by 65 votes to 50.
