The manager of the junior representative team which played South Canterbury on Saturday (Mr A. McDonald, of Methyen, had retired from the gaine, having broken a small bone in his shoulder.
The manager of the senior representative team which played Canterbury B (Mr J. C. C. MeLachlan) said that in the absence of J. Robilliard the local backs appeared to be. disorganised, and the play, particularly in the first half, was deplorably weak. There was an entire lack of cohesion in the team, and the attempts at tackling were ludicrous. Consequently the visitors had little opposition in scoring 19 points in the first spell, The local team improved their play during the second half and were unlucky in not increasing the score. The visitors thoroughly deserved their win.
The reports were received. The president reported that in the event of Canterbury not being able to receive the North Otago representative team on October Ist there was a possibility of the North Otago team being able to play at Ashburton on that date.

"There is a general cry throughout New Zealand at the present time that there are too many representative matches and not enough, town versus country matches inside the territory of the respective Unions," said Mr IV Pritchard .as he advocated that instead of a third round being played next season the 'incoming Union consider the advisability of staging several of .these fixtures. He said that practically the same 'fifteep men were ch'osen for every representative ma,tch, while the other senior: players had to stand on the line.
Members considered that, the suggestion. was a good one, and the president said he hoped it. would be considered at the commencement of the season. .
Mr T. Doherty referred to the lack of training on the part of some of the county members of the representative teams who were supposed to assemble on a night beforo the fixture.
