MAGISTERIAL. (Before Mr H, A. SToung, S.M.) -DRUNKENNESS. Six lirst offenders for drunkfinneaa were charged. Four were fined 10s each, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, and two others fined 203, the amount of their, bail. Anthony Shannon was fined £3, ja default ten days' imprisonment the Magistrate remarking that he would bo sent to gaol on his next appearance. He was ordered to taka out a prohibition order. • ADVICE TO MAGISTRATE. V Konald Lloyd pleaded not guilty to charges of using obscene language and resisting the police. . Constable Anderson said that at 6.30 on Saturday evening ho saw the accused in High street and advised him to get along The' accused , tecamo . loudly abusive ana, witness had to thiow and hand-cuff him." Alfred William McConnell, who drove the accused in his taxi-cab, said that he used obscene language on the way. George Jones, newsagent, said that ho could hear tho laxiguago when eis-htooc to twenty feet away. ' • ''Of . coarse you must remember that once you've been convicted," tho accused explained to the Magistrate, "the police are always after you to get another conviction and make a criminal of you." The Magistrate said the accused had several other convictions and would be sent to Pa.pa.rua ' gaol for fourteen days on the charge of obscene language. On the other charge he was convicted and discharged. DRUNK IN CHARGE. . Richard Brady pleaded guilty to being drunk in charge of a horse and cart in St. Asaph street. The Sub-Inspector said that Brady was driving with another man and they both fell out of the trap. A fine of £8 was imposed, Brady being given a . fortnight ic which to pay the fine. KEPT 4 WATCH-DOG. Frank Power was prosecuted by Inspector Blewitt for keeping an unlicensed dog. He stated that things were hard, as he had nine childreo to keep, but he would find the 10s for the licens3. He did not. want tc> lose the animal as it was a good watch-dog. : "You shouldn't need a watcli-dog with nine children in the house,". said the Magistrate. The case was adjourned for a week. TRAFFIC BREACHES. For leaving cars standing for a longer period than that prescribed by the by-law, tho following were fined with- costs: —Norman Hall 10s, John Menzies ss, R. Anderson 30s, Mrs A. AV. Anderson 20s, John Ledeham 10s. For leaving cars without lights, the following were fined, with costs:—Cecil Davics Graham 10s, Alex. Boyle' 10s, Peter n. Hyndman costs only. ■ G. B. Riesses wa3 fined JOa and costs, Evan Wilson 10s and costs, F. i. Bennett 10s and costs, H. Romer 10s without costs, for leaving vehicles at night without lights. C. Moir for not having lights on a motorcycle was fined 10s without costs. , James Henry Coddington was fined 10s and costs for leaving a motor on tho footpath. For cycling on tho footpath, Arthur Duffy was fined 10s and costs, and A Sutherland 53 without costs. , VEHICLE LICENSES.' Leslie Charles Hawf.in was. fined 5s and costs for not having a delivery vehicle properly licensed, and was ordered to pay costs for not having his licence endorsed. J. Grant Mackie, charged with _ not being in possession of an endorsed license and having no certificate of registration, waa ordered to pay costs. L. D. Porter was fined 10s and. costs for using, a vehicle unlicensed under the heavy traffic by-laws. • ' SPEEDING. Thomas Clifford Smith, for speeding at an estimated rate of 25 mile 3 per over a Waimairi intersection, was fined £5 and costs. ' ' Neil Clarkson for speeding over an intersection was finod £3 and costs. V. K. Peters was fined £3 and costs and Francis Revere £2 and costs for' speeding. (Before ilr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) MAINTENANCE CASES. j Ernest Adams, for being in arrears on a maintenance order in respect to a child, wa3 convicted and sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour, warrant to bo suspended so long as defendant pays 5s a week in addition to current payments. Jame3 Duncan Stewart, who did not appear, was convicted and sentenced to one month's imprisonment for disobedience of a maintenance order, the warrant to be withdrawn on payment oi £2l.
