The value oi the ii3t in promoting play amongst rising players was splendidly illustrated in the case o! Chas. Angas, bringing him as it did into the front raak of players-and gaining him a place in the team that played against Wellington in the Anthony Wilding Memorial Shield contest. A recommendation would be submitted to the annual meeting that the rules governing the ranking list be altered to provide that the tennis year should end on tho last day of February. Southbrook was worthy of special mention, having put down .three good courts. The Ashley ' Club had put down two concrete courts, which waa a great improvement on their , clay courts.
