A new system of shorthand, which can bo applied with equal success to French, English, German, Spanish, or Italian, is said to have been invented by M. Paul Remy. a blind Frenchman, "Auto-stenography,'' as he calls it, is based on the letters and signs of ordinary handwriting. Vowels are deleted, and diphthongs, or groups of vowels, are represented by orthographic signs or simple punctuation marks. M. Remy's system, it is.claimed, has the advantage of < - naming only 36 rules, which can be Mastered in a very short time. He says that it can be written in any of the" five languages mentioned above at 180. words per minute.
