CITY'S WATER SUPPLY. PROPOSED SUB-STATION AT WOOLSTON. The City Council decided last night to allow Mr J. H. Stewart to sink a nine-inch bore to the 240 feet level in the .Woolston yard, Ferry road, at a cost of £4BO. with a view to improving the water supply in the eastern portion cf Christehurch. The Water Supply and Works Committee reported as follows; — In reference to the reticulation of the eastern portion of the City, the City Engiueer states that by installing a sub-station at Woolston, not only will tho pressare in the eastern suburbs be boosted up, but it would also be possible to supply such outside districts as New Brighton, Bromley, Heathcote, Mt. Pleasant, and possibly Lyttelton, and it is understood that there is every likclihood\ in the near future thatmore than one of the above-mentioned districts will be applying for connexion to the City reticulation. Present indications are that sufficient water can be obtained from a bore in the Woolston vard in Ferry road. Cr. A W. Beaven said that there was a natural spring which was on the property and which would, he felt sure, give good results if tapped. He thought that tho time was not opportune to undertake such work, and that there was not sufficient money in hand for tin? purpose. The report was adopted.
