HOLIDAY PICTURES.
LAST WEEK'S BIG EVENTS. DESCRIBED IN ARTISTIC ILLUSTRATIONS. Though the people who made holiday last week for the winter racing carnival in Christchurch are now performing the daily roundj memories of the events of the week linger. They will be revived by the publication tomorrow of the "Weekly Press," for pictures illustrating some of the principal features of Grand National Week naturally occupy a prominent place in the popular magazine. The winners of the "Nationals" and other important races and many of the striking incidents that occurred were specially photographed for the- "Weekly Press," and of course there are many ''snapshots" showing some of the people who attended the lv.ces and what they woro. Hugby enthusiasts will be particularly interested this week in a series of scenes from the Payne Trophy contest, when theOtago champions beat the winners of the Canterbury competition. Another group of sports pictures illustrates the Australian tour of the New Zealand hockey representatives. The members of the Dominion', team are shown as they took the field against Victoria, and the plav is described in some striking "snaps'." Subjects cf general interest give ample variety and charm to the illustrations. The big .slip on the Hutt road, which has so disorganised Wellington's suburban traffic, is graphically portrayed in a couple of pictures, and an interesting photograph from the same locality shows the progress that is being made in railwav extendi 0 "™ J* re P ara tions lor the Ruapehu Skii Club s winter sports at Tongariro Rational Park have provided material tor a fine group of illustrations from that grand mountain region. Room has also been found for several picture* received by the latest mail from abroad and a photograoh taken at the Christchurch Tepid Baths during a mixed bathing period is full of interest. l , < ■ In its literary department, the pages for women and the farmers' section, the "Weekly Press" this week is well filled with the features that make it tht- pre-eminent family magazine of the Dominion. It will bo on sale everywhere to-morrow.
