OUTSIDE OPINION TO BE SOUGHT. Some time ago the Waitnakariri River Trust decided by special resolution to obtain an opinion from an eminent engineer in Britain or the Continent on a proper scheme of river control to be put into operation at as early a date as possible. The Trust, however was not in a position to select an engineer for the purpose, and it was decided, therefore, to ask the Institution of Civil Engineers, London, to suggest an engineer qualified to advise and report on the proposals which had been prepa ® ester< j ay>g mee ti n g of the Data Committee of the Trust it was decided to send to the Institution, through Sir Francis Boys, a member of the irust, who is at present in England, a report on the matter submitted by Mr H. w. Harris. Resident Engineer, together with a number of others on river protection, presented from time to time by various engineers, as follows: Messrs W. T.
