Reakes, gave to the New Zealand Farmers' Union Conference to-day an assurance that every precaution was being taken against the introduction of foot-and-mouth disease into New Zealand. The seed was only . a mechanical conveyer. The authorities at Home decided on the sterilisation of hay and straw before being used for packing, and he had reason to believe that _ the 'work was being carried out efficiently and satisfactorily.
