AIR MANOEUVRES.
TESTING LONDON »S DEFENCES.
for CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT). (AUSTRALIA* ACT N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received July 25th, 7.35 p.m.) • LONDON, July 35The air manoeuvres, which begin at six this morning and will last until Friday, are on an unprecedented scale. The primary aim is to test the. defences of London. The defence is being controlled by Sir John Salmond, who has more than 200 aeroplanes, apart from searchlights, guns, and observation poses throughout England. The general idea is that London has been seriously bombed and the (government has retired to Manchester, taking with it a proportion of London's air defence in order to reinforce the local defences in Manchester. Ino enemv is aware of this, having had experience of . the strengthened Manchester defences, and in order to prevent further transfers employs eleven squadrons to attack London from the South and East Coasts by day and night. If London falls, the victory of the enemy will he complete, as Manchester's fall must follow.
