MONDAY. ! (Beiora Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Three first-offending inebriates 'were each fined 20a, is default 34 hours' imprisonment. IDLE AND DISORDERLY. ! A single man, William Grainger, aged 45 j years, was charged with drunkenness, with j a breach of his prohibition order, and with j being an idle and disorderly person, in that | he had insufficient lawful means of support. | Sub-Inspector Mathew stated that ae- j cased had been previously convicted on the third charge, and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon. Accused, in evidence, stated that he had been in ill-health for a long time, and suffered from his back. He had thought that methylated spirits would warm him. The Sub-Inspector: You know that it will make you drunk. , Accused: Oh, yes. It upset me. The Magistrate: You have been . convicted twice in" the last six months for drunkenness. . . .I'm going to put you where you •will receive medical treatment. Grainger was fined £2, in default fourteen days' imprisonment, on each of the first two charges, and wsb sentenced to three months' imprisonment on the third. "If you come before the Court again you will get twelve months," warned .the Magistrßte' TRAFFIC BREACHES. Erneat Leeson was fined 5s and costs, and Thomas Alexander 10s and costs for cycling at night without a light. For having no reflector on! his machine, Alexander was convicted and discharged. ' ' Peter Gordon was fined 10s and costs, and Dorothy Nelson 10s and costs for leaving cars unattended. ,'.,,, j Norman Falrbairn was fined 10s and costs for driving a motor-vehiclo without a license to do so. • Cyril Blake, the owner of a motor-vehicle unlicensed under the heavy traffic by-laws, was fined 20s and costs;.and H. C. Beardsley, the driver of the vehicle, was fined 10s and costs. ■ • • ■ Leonard Damiano, for cutting the corner at Manchester and Gloucester streets, was fined 20s and costs. Frederick Cochrane and William J.' Day were each convicted and discharged for failing to return licensing discs. For failing to return a telephone key, R..W. Edgar was convicted and discharged, and Horace Stokes was fined Is 6d and costs. For passing a standing tram, Francis A. Moody was fined £2 and costs. James Morrison was fined 10s and costs fori plying for hire with an unlicensed motorvehicle. ' SPEEDING. J, H. Clinton, who did not appear, was charged with speeding on Ferry road. Mr Loughnan, for the City Council, stated that the offence had been committed at 11.25 p.m. The estimated speed had been 35 miles an hour. Defendant had appeared on b similar charge in respect to the same intersections in May last. He considered that defendant's license should bo dealt with. The Magistrate: I certainly am going to cancel his license. He added'that defendant's wife had sold the car. Mr Loughnan: Ybb. It.b'elongod to her. Clinton wsb-fined £5 and costs, and his license was cancelled, and he was prohibited from securing another for twelve months. G. M. Lester was fined 10s and costs, and Frederick S. Grant 10s and costs for leaving motor-cars without lights. MAINTENANCE CASES. (Before Mr H. P. Lowry, S.M.) ' An application for an increase of the amount payable on a maintenance order against Percival Sylvester Knipe was granted, defendant being ordered to pay 10s per week. Mrs Dennis, now Mary Parsons, was ordered' to pay 5s per week maintenance towards a near relative. Ernest Sydney Dyer, for disobedience of a maintenance order, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended provided arrears aire paid off at the rate of 5s per week, in addition to the current order. The case in which Evelyn Jean Pepper (Mr Godfrey) proceeded against Clifford Ashley Pepper was adjourned for a. week after the hearing of claimant's evidence. . William O'Eane, for disobedience of a maintenance order, wag convicted and sentenced to one. months' imprisonment, the warrant to he' withdrawn oh payment of £7.
