HALSWELL.
On Saturday evening the local sports club committee held the second of a series of progressive euchre parties, there being a moderate attendance of players.' After keen competition the prizes were awarded to the following: —Ladies: Mrs Savage. 1, Mrs McLaughlin 2; men: Mr R. Walker 1, Mr Streeter 2. A meeting of ladies in the district was held recently to make arrangements for a return ball to the bachelors. A strong committee has been elected and arrangements haive been made to hold the ball at an early date next month.
CHORLTON-LITTLE AKALOA. The annual returned soldiers' ball, which was to have taken place on Friday, had to be postponed on ' account of the Summit road being blocked with snow. The progressive euchre parties seem to be gaining in popularity, it being the usual thing now to have the tables filled. Last week Miss Gwitha Shand and Mr George Craw won the prizes, the consolations going to Miss Boleyn and Mr John Herriot. At this week's tournament, Mrs C. Priest and Mr C. Craw were the winners with Miss Thelma Craw and .Mr Donald Boleyn the consolation winners..
Mrs C. Shuttleworth is at present- at Tai Tapu. -Mrs Arnold Shuttleworth" has returned home after a long visit to Akaroa. She was accompanied by her mother, Mrs G. Armstrong, and Nurse Hall.Miss Mary Waghom.is home, again after a holiday.in town. Mr Gordon Hussey is spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs J. Craw.
