ATLANTIC FLYERS.
« —— WELCOME IN NEW YORK.
(BT CABLE— PMCSS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT) (AUSTBALIAH AND V.Z. CABIJt ASSOCIATION.)
NEW YORK,* July 18
Clarence Chamberlain,' Commander Byrd, Lieutenant Neville, George Balchen, and Bert Acosta returned in the Leviathan and were given a civic reception. They were welcomed with flags, music, speeches, and the customary liberal quantities of ticker tape and torn paper. There was not the same wild enthusiasm as was evidenced when Lindbergh returned, but hundreds of thousands of people lined Broadway from The Battery to the City Hall and cheered the airmen heartily. A sudden heavy shower marred the civic ceremonies, sending the crowd scurrying for shelter. Notwithstanding this the programme was carried out. The Mayor, Mr Walker, decorated the airmen, who then proceeded to the Eternal Light "War Memorial, where they deposited a wreath, after which they reviewed the parade.
