FARMERS' EXCURSION.
VISIT TO WEST COAST. Consisting of thirteen carriages, including a demonstration car, and convoying a largo number of passengers, consisting of farmers from all parts of the Ashburton County, the farmers' excursion train left Ashburton at 9.43 a.m. yesterday, on its journey to the West Coast. Quite a number of settlers from Methven and from districts along that branch-line joined the train at Eakaia, while passengers were picked up on the main line as far as Kolleston and also up the Midland line. Accompanying the train were Mr F. Pawson (Canterbury Business Agent of the New Zealand Railways), Mr H. C. B Withell (president of the Mid-Can-terbury Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union), Mr Angus Horsey (chairman of the Ashburton County Council), and Mr P. Shearer (president of the Ashburton A. and P. Association). • , A comprehensive programme nas been drawn up for the entertainment of the excursionists on the Coast, ana they will return on Saturday at about 4.30 p.m.
