WEST EYRETON BRIDGE.
CONSIDERED BY COUNCIL. At the meeting-of the Eyre County Council on. Mohday a deputation' con : sisting' of Measrß F. A. Sheat and" C. Mcintosh waited "on the Council as advocates of the erection of the at Blackmore 'a ford. , Mr Sheat' said that as. the previous Council had decided upon the. Blackmore's ford site, he thought the present one. should .ratify" the decision. Liberal promises of support had been made in the past, but' unfortunately owing to the present stringency of the financial situation these were now withdrawn, and the ratepayer's looked to the Council- to find any /balance} over and above the Government grant of £1250. "". Mr Mcintosh said, the evidence taken by the previous Council in the course of its enquiry showed that a bridgewas necessary as the stream was sonre•times a mountain torrent, and .other bridges - were miles away. . Other Councils provided bridges where necessary for Eyre-ratepayers to .use, , a<nd ; this Council should reciprocate. Both Wolff's ford and; Petfcer's ford ' ratepayers, were' agreeable to the Blackmore's ford site, so ■- that now, -till .parties were unanimous. As regards finance, several plantations that previously were owned by the old West Eyretpn Boad Board were felled, and the profits had gone into the Council's general fund, so there should be no hesitation in providing the loan- of some ■£ 2500 as a Charge on the general fund. ■,-.: The Council after considerable ! discussion, decided to postpone?the matter till the nest meeting,'when the balance, sheet would.have been completed showing the financial position, of the West EyretOn-and,Eyre ridings.. .
