RANGIORA. I The Northern A. and P. Association Hall was, crowded on Tuesday evening when members of the Catholic congre gation in the Rangiora parish met to bid farewell to the Rev. Father O'Doherty, who has been promoted to tho South Westland parish. Mr P. V. Mcßrierty presided, and with him wa3 the Rev. Father Leen, parish priest, Rangiora. Tho chairman, in extending a; welcome to all present, said it would b<a very ungrateful of theni if they did not show their appreciation to Father O'Doherty tor the good work done by him •in the parish during his four years as curate, and also to congratulate Irim on his promotion to the charge of so important a parish as South Westland. Ho called on Mr J..F. Gallagher, one of the oldest parishioners, who presented, the guest with, a well-filled pocket-book on behalf of the parishioners of "Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Oxford, and Loburn.. The chairman also read a letter from the Kaiapoi parishioners enclosing a 'roll of notes, and apologising for not being represented. Mr Joyce; representing the Loburn parishioners, congratulated Father O'Doherty on his promotion. They were sorry to - losei him from amongst them, he said, but their guest was going.- to a very important parish, and they all knew ho would do his work well and conscientiously. The ■Rev. Father Leen testified to the faithful work of Father O'Dolierty during his four years as his curate, and eaia it was gratifying to him to know that his work had .been appreciated Several other priests spoke of. their associations with the guest,, and congratulated him on his promotion. Father O'Doherty suitably responded. Miss Boyd also presented Rev. Father O'Doherty with au umbrella on behalf of the. Children of Mary. During the evening an excellent programme _of pianoforte 6olos and duets, songs, recitations, a violin solo, and an Irish reel were given by Miss K. Cassidy, Miss E. Miles, and Miss-Young, and Messrs G. Hutchinson, T. Joyce, O'Mailey, White (dancing), Misses. M. Brady, E. MeGrath, K. Cole, R. Fitzgibbon, . M. and N. Fitzgibbon, and Master and Miss P. Mcßrierty. The accompanists were Misses K. Cassidy and V. MeGrath. Mr B. 0. Hopkins, of the grocery department of the N.Z. Farmers' Co-op. Association, who is severing his connexion with the firm, was, on Tuesday evening, presented by the manager (Mr W. McKenzie) with a leather suit-case on behalf of the staff. : At the annual meeting of tho Rangiora Celtic Club, the election of officers for the ensuing year resulted:—Patron, Rev. AMBERLEY. The annual meeting* of the Amberley Golf Club was held recently,; Mr Gordon Fulton presiding over a good attendance of members. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted, the club having had a most successful season'in every way. The following officers were elected: —Patron, Mr Gordon Fulton; president, Mr S. Frew; vice-presidents, Mesdames F. Courage and Gordon Fultou, Miss King Church, Dr. T. T. Thompson, Messrs'L. H. Campbell, N. D. Campbell, and J. B. Starky; club captain, Mr J. Mayo; vice-captain, Mr C. W. Browne; secretary, Mr S. G. Grierson; treasurer, Mr "C. Redpath; match committee, ]>r.' Thompson, Messrs C. Redpath.and J. Mayo;• grounds committee, Messrs W. A. Opening day was fixed for Saturday, when a flag match will be played. The links are in good order; a working bee of some.4o members spent last Saturday afterifoon preparing them for play. Several matches are already" arranged with otter clubs and generally the'prospects for tho coming season are excellent. Members will be the guests of the president, Mr S. Frew, and Mrs Frew at afternoon tea on owning day.

SEFTON. At a recent meeting of the Girls' Missionary Auxiliary at the Sefton Presbyterian Church, Miss Myrtle Miller sent in her resignation as treasurer, which was accepted with regret, and Miss Connie Farrar was appointed to the office. It was decided to hold a bazaar in June in aid of the funds, and stall-holders were appointed as follows:—Cake stall, Mrs Vette, with Misses S. Miller, M. Hawke, and E. Dobson; produce stall, Mrs Jas. Douds with Misses Lang (2), Minton, Douds, Vallance, and C. Bimrie: variety stall, Mrs J. F. Douds, with Misses M. Lang, C. Farrar,. H. Harris, and M. Miller; ■sweet stall, Misses Thelnia Peach and E. Bowbyes; bran-tub, Misses J. Farrar and M. Vette, Masters H. V ette and J. McGifford; afternoon tea, Mesdames E. Peach and J. Farrar. The harvest thanksgiving service was held in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday evening. There was a display of fruit and vegetables, and the church had been beautifully decorated. The service was taken by the Eev. J. Farrar who' preached an appropriate sermon from "Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap.' - * A solo was sung by Mrs Meyer, of Ashley. Miss M. DalzeH presided at the organ. The Kink Hall was comfortably fdled on Monday evening when there was a sale of produce followed by a concert given by visitors 'from Christchurch. Instrumental duets were given by Misses Johns and Johnson, solos and duets by Misses Johns and Johnson, and Mr A. Dav gave several recitations. HORORATA. The annual meeting of the Hororata Golf Club was held in the hall recently, Mr T. E. Pearson presiding. The dub has had a very satisfactory vcar, and .the balance-sheet shows a credit of £l3 1-s Gd. The fairways were in fairly good order, and altogether an enjoyable time was experienced. During the afternoon Mr G. Hall took the opportunity of presenting prizes to the winnors of various competitions. On Friday night a concert given by the Hororata school children was held in the hall to ■ raise money to install electric light in the school and school house. The concert programme, which was well received by a big audience, comprised the following items: —Song (in character),- senior pupils; recitation, llewa Barrett: action song and chorus, Martin Justice and Roy Barrett; song, infants; drill, senior pupils; action song, infants; dialogue, Doris Oliver, Rao Boyle, . and Don Munro; humorous vocal duet, Gwladys Locker and Rewa Barrett; dance, "Gavotte," infants (girls); Japanese song and chorus, Edna Gray; play, "A- Real Adventure," junior pupils; song, senior pupils; recitation, Joyce McKenzie and Roma Critehley; humorous vocal duet, Phyllis Justice and Iris Hore; recitation, Elma Felton; action song, infants; dialogue, Phyllis Justice and Bernie McKenzie; song, junior girls; descriptive song, Gwladys Locker and Rewa Barrett; good-night song, junior girls. At the conclusion of the programme the chairman (Mr Bruce) thanked the residents for their attendance. Tho Hororata Football Club opened its season on Saturday, when a friendly game was played in ideal weather. At the annual meeting of the Public Hall the following committee was elected for the ensuing year : —Messrs H. Boyle, W. 'lt. Oliver, W. Bellamy, T. Adams, G. E. Cartvright, T. Hight, and H. A. Thome. Harvest Thanksgiving services were conducted at St. John's Anglican Church on •Sunday by the Rev. 11. N. Roberts. There was a large congrcga-. tiou and a good display of orchard and farm nroduce.

SWANNANOA. An evening last week vras spent very pleasantly in the Swannanoa Hall where those present at a kitchen evening given in honour of Miss Rose Petrie, a fortnight previous, were entertained by Mr and Mrs Janics Petrie on the evening after their daughter's wedding to Mr John Horn, of Horrelville. Dancing to music provided by members ot the Oust Jazz Band and songs by ladies present kept the quests well entertained.
