i. • - | RAILWAY EXCURSIONS. ! " Ye. r y complete arrangements have been made by the Railway Department in anticipation of heavy ' passenger traffic during the coming Easter holidays. Extra [express trains between Christchurch, Dunedin, and Invercargill are included in the time-table, and intending passengers are advised by the .Railway authorities to travel by these trains as there may not be room for all on the ordinary expresses. Those who cannot get away for their vacations in time to join the day express trains will appreciate the running of tue night train for Dunedin, which will leave Christchurch at 10.25 p.m. on .Thursday, April 14 th. A night train will also be run to Dunedin, leaving Christchurch at 10.26 p.m. on April 18th (Easter Monday). On Good Friday excursion trains will leave-Christchurch for Otira at 8 a.m. and 8.10 a.m., and the attractions of the mountain scenery will doubtless appeal to many in tiie City. Early trams are being run from all suburbs bo the Christchurch' railway station to connect with these trains, and hot water, refreshments, and luncheon will be obtainable at the railway refreshment rooms at Otira Passengerß may, if they so desire, alight from the train at Arthur's Pass, have lunch, walk through the Otira Gorge, and rejoin the return train at' the Public Worses siding (between Otira and Otira tunnel). An officer of the Railway Department will accompany those who walk through the gorge. On Easter Saturday the Department has arranged an excursion to Temuka and Timaru. The train will leave Christchurch at 8 a.m. Timaru will appeal to those desirous of visiting the seaside, while those who prefer the country will be attracted by the claims of Temuka. Hot water and milk will be supplied to excursionists to Timaru free of charge by'the Caroline Bay Association, and hot luncheon (Ib 6d) and afternoon tea (9d) .will be obtainable at the Caroline Bay Tea Rooms. ' On Easter Monday sports will be held at Sefton and Waikari, and a special train service' will be. provided. On this day there will nlso bo an excursion to Stewart's Gully. Fon the Canterbury Jockey Club's race meeting, at Riccarton on Easter Monday arid Tuesday, a quick and convenient train service is being provided to and from the racecourse. A ladies' car will be provided on each race train.
