LOWER HUTT BRIDGE.
* GOVERNMENT ASKED FOR ASSISTANCE. (PRESS tSSOCIATIOK TXLEOEAJI.) WELLINGTON, April 4A deputation interested in local bodies asked the Hon. Mr Williams today if the Government would provide a pound for pound subsidy on tlie cost of the new Lower Hutt traffic bridge. The Government had already arranged a contribution of £SOOO. The total cost is estimated at £26,000, of which it was proposed that the City Council and the Lower Hutt Borough Council would each pay £7BOO. The Minister said that he would discuss the matter with Cabinet and the Highways Board.
