KANGAROO'S FIGHT.
— — AUSTRALIAN BUSH INCIDENT. (lEOM OTO OWN COBBESPONDENT.) SYDNEY, March 4. A fierce and determined, fight for life was put up by an "old man" kangaroo near Wingham ; on the M inning river, last week. This kangaroo showed wonderful gameness, and extraordinary cunning, and actually charged at a man on a horse, knocking him off the horse. A party of three men were out mustering, when the dogs bailed up the kangaroo near a water-hole. While the dogs were worrying the animal one of the party rode up and ciacked his stockwhip, whereupon the kangaroo made a charge straight at him, and, leaping from the ground actually knocked him out of the saddle, inflicting a very nasty wound in the chest of the horse with his toe. It then attacked the prostrate man savagely, ripping him with its feet, and stood over him until another man ran to the rescue. Not satisfied with this, the kangaroo made back to the waterhole, with the dogs in pursuit. Clasping one of the dogs it pushed it under the water in an attempt to drown it—which is a well-known trick of kangaroos—when the other men came up. Even then the kangaroo, standing in the water, kept men and dogs at bay for half an hour, and finally, when the way was clear, made off into the bush.
