The extraordinary behaviour of a young man in the Octagon yesterday caused his; appearance before Mr J. R. BartUolomew, J3.Jf.,.in thet,PjJlico. Court this morning, when he-was charged with disorderly conduct while drunk. His namd was Robert Brownlie. He came from Glasgow only ■ a week ago, and" deicriLed himself as an engineer. "This is a sorry case,'- said SeniorSergeant .Quartormain. "He seems rather a decent chap, but in the Octagon yesterday he behaved in a rather extraordinary manner. He pulled women's dresses, and even wont so for aa to spit on one woman, whereupon she went across to the Town Hall ana complained." ''He- was bailed out in the sum of £sf and had £SB in hia possession." the Sergeant proceeded. "I had a ialk with hmi, and 1 feel rather 1 sorry for him." In reply to the Magistrate accused slid, he intended to-stay in the Dominion. ' "'. ' ',. The Magistrate, in warning Brownlio that he could be sent to gaol for this inflicted a fine of £5, in default fourteen days', imprisonment.
