SELWYN BRIDGE.
SUPERSTRUCTURE WORK. A complaint that work on the superstructure of tiie new Selwyn bridge was being delayed was recently made by Mr E. C. Suteliffe, secretary of the Canterbury Carpenters' and Joiners' Union, to the Minister for Public Works, together with a request* that tho work should be expedited in order to relieve unemployment among car- , pentei'3. Tho District Publio Works Engineer (Mr F. W. Langbcui) told a representative of The Pbes3 yesterday that a request to Bupply two carpenters for the job had been made to the Union, the timber for tho superstructure being now on the site of the bridge. If there was an impression about that the work was a big one so far as carpenters were concerned, he said, he wished to correct it. As a matter of fact tho two men referred to would be all that would be necessary for a few weeks, after which work would probably bo found for another four men, these six l>eing quite adequate to cope with tho job until it was completed.
