DOCTORS AT MILFORD.
WHY PARTY WAS DISAPPOINTED. [THE PEESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON. February 2. A Press Association message from Invercargill, published last night, stated that forty doctors from Australia had been disappointed because tlio Tourist Department had no boat available tor landing them at Milford Sound, so that the.v might bo able to walk overlaud to Lake Te Anau. It was stated officially to-day' that the Tourist Deportment in Wellington was awaiting a full report from Milford in regard to the matter. According to u telegram received yesterday, four of the party landed, and'that being so, it was impossible to understand whv the remainder of the party had not disembarked. "It must be borne in mind, however, that a few days before tho Moeralci arrived in Milford. a fire completely wiped out the huts there and all stores, furniture, etc., were destroyed," the Department's statement added. "Owing to the isolated position of this locality, it would be absolutely impossible to transport Stores, bedding, benzine, etc., i'i the timo that intervened between the fire mid the arrival of the visitors. That the Department were iliye to the advantage of getting these visitors over the-track is shown by the fact that the New Zealand. Government agent in Melbourne circularised all the visiting doctors suggesting this trin, :ind as far as was humanly possible, all •'.rrangements were completed. Any liUch at Milford could only be accounte i for bv unforeseen circumstances frer which the Department had no control. '
