PERSONAL. (special to thi p4isb.) . GEEYMOUTH, January 28. . Mr Frederick John Mouat, formerly of the Hokitika Lands Office staff, was admitted as a barrister by his Honour, Mr Justice Stringer, at tho Auckland Supreme Court-last Tuesday. Nurso Boss, formerly on the staff of Eewa Maternity Hospital, is visiting the West Coast. Mr George Wycherley, of tho Dunedin ""Star," who has been visiting the West Coast, will return to-morrow. The . marriage of Mr Arthur Leslie Owen, of Greymouth, to Miss Daisy Donaldson, of Westport, was solemnised last evening, at the Church of the.Resurrection, Cobden. Mr and Mrs Owen left this morning for Nelson, where their honeymoon will be spent. Misses Rita Morrison and L. Booth will return to Greymouth by to-mor-row's express after a holiday in Dunedin. Mr Hugh Mcintosh, who has been spending a short holiday with friends at Cobden, left this morning for Rotomanu. Miss Doris Lovel, who has been spending a holiday at Westport, returns tomorrow to-Woodville, via Nelson. Messrs E. L. Kehoe and W. Hutton, of the Grey Technical School instructional staff, will return from their midsummer vacation by to-morrow's express. Misrepresentation Charge. At the Westport Magistrate's Court M, Cressy claimed £BS from Mrs F. Huddleston, for alleged misrepresentation in connexion . with the business known as "Thfl Delta." Defendant did not appear, and 'Mr Meldrum, S.M., gave judgment for the amount claimed with costs £5 2s 6d. Farmers' Excilrsion. Mr F. & Pawson, business agent for the New Zealand Railways, who.is visiting the West Coast' in connexion with the proposed farmers' excursion to Canterbury, met. the executive of the Koka* tahi Branch of the Farmers' Union this evening. Mr.. Pawson • will visit Ross to-morrow, and next week he will proceed to-South Westland. Tho proposal is meeting with good support from the various branches, the general opinion being that the excursion will be an excellent opportunity for an interchange of views regarding agricultural'matters with Canterbury farmers. The arrangements in connexion with tho 'excursion will be finalised" at the annual meeting of the West Coast Farmers' Union.

Dry Weather Spell. .The. dry' weather. spell is causing a shortage of water in, several, of the upcountry townships; where the residents have to depend upon tank water for their domestic requirements.' A report from Keefton this evening stated that if the present dry spell continued-for another few (fays, several"ifaines/ini.the district would have to close "down through shortage of water, r Sweltering hot weather is reported from the up-country districts, but ideal climatic conditions are prevailing in the Coastal centres where the heat is tempered by a refreshing breeze "from the .sea. . The beaches are being well patronised by: pickriickers and surf bathers,.and the swimming baths at Cobden are also receiving a -large share of patronage 'from bathers of bothsexes. •

Compulsory Registration. At the Magistrate's Court, Westport, Mr Meldrum. S.M., presiding, SeniorSergeant P. J.. McCarthy proceeded against a batch of-electors-who failed to comply , with the compulsory Registration of Elections Act. He. did not press for any penalty, but brought the cases forward as a warning to others, and to give publicity to the requirements of the Act. Two of the offenders'had since complied with the regulations, and the Senior-Sergeant asked that these charges be withdrawn. Mr C. Montgomery, Registrar of Electors, gave evidence proving the charges. His Worship said there was a nominal fine attached to the offence, but as the Senior-Sergeant, did not press for this .he would order the defaulters* to. pay costs. . •
