Fifty-six unemployed have replied in the affirmative to the circular letter sent out by the Labour Department, enquiring \yhether they were prepared to accept work on Public Works jobs. This is six in excess of the number signified by the officers of the Public Works Department as the minimum "equired before the relief works would be started. A good proportion of the number are said to be unfit for heavy occupations. Yesterday's registrations numbered fourteen, seven being married, with 21 dependents. One man was placed in work. Mr E. Parlane will represent the Labour Representation Committee, and Mr F. M. Robson the Trades and Labour Council at Wednesday's conference of local bodies on employment.
