French troops, after a forced march through snow, and after suffering terrible hardships, surrounded the notorious chief Hammou and a band of followers upon the snow-covered heights of the Beni Ourain Mountains, where they were determined to sell their lives dearly. Hammou and his chief supporters fell fighting, and the remainder were captured.
